Welcome to Murray Lake Cottages

We are a small family-owned fishing & hunting lodge located deep in Ontario's vast wilderness. We are located north-east of Superior and in the wilderness region east of Wawa and south of Missanabie, Ontario. Our camp is located on Murray Lake, one of Ontario's top fishing lakes.

We are now a GREEN CAMP

Walleye Fishing: The main attraction of our lake is the fantastic Walleye fishing. Walleye are the dominant species in the lake and our guests return year after year to catch a plentitude of these hard fighting and tasty fish. Walleye in the 2 to 4-pound range are common with guests occasionally catch and releasing Trophy Walleyes. We have had guests report catching between 60 and 80 Walleye in a day and this is partly due to our release policy of all spawning size Walleye over 22 inches. A big Walleye is a lot of fun to catch but many enjoy the abundance of Walleye in the 16" to 18" range, which are the best eating sizes.

Northern Pike Fishing: As the apex predators in the lake Northern Pike are also a huge favorite of our guests. Northern Pike are very easy to catch and hoards of them in the 2 to 6-pound range can be caught as well as good numbers of Northern Pike in the 7 to 12-pound range. Many guests travel here just to get a big Trophy Northern. Guests who specifically target Northern Pike have a great chance at a 20-pounder. On occasion Northern Pike over 45 inches get caught and released. Since owning the camp the largest Northern Pike caught by one of our guests was 47 inches.

Smallmouth Bass Fishing: Murray Lake has a rocky Canadian Shield stucture and the perfect habitat for Smallmouth Bass to proliferate in great numbers and get big. Smallmouth Bass are found all along the shore and off rocky structure and points. Guests many times report catching over 60 hard fighting Smallies in an afternoon with some big ones. Smallmouth Bass in the 1 to 3-pound mark are common. Those who specifically target the Bronzbacks can get rewarded with not only large Smallmouth Bass but trophy size. There are plenty of Smallmouth Bass in the 4 to 6-pound range that get caught with the occasional 7-pounder. The Walleye in our area also hit the bass lures and Senko Worms.

Brook Trout & Lake Trout Fishing: We have several remote backcountry lakes that have outstanding Lake Trout and Brook Trout fishing. We have three small Lake Trout lakes where guests can expect to catch 10 to 20 Trout in an afternoon with the sizes averaging around 2.5 pound, which is the best eating size for Trout. We have stocked spring-fed Brook Trout Lakes near by where guests can spend the afternoon leisurely canoeing or kayaking and catch Brook Trout in the 1/3 to 2.5 pound range. These lakes have produced Brook Trout as big as 7 pounds but that is a rare monster-size Brookie. There are also a few cold streams in the area that produce lots of Brook Trout in the 9 to 12-inch range with the occasional 15 or 16 incher.

Black Bear Hunting: Hunting for Black Bear is a time honored family tradition at Murray Lake Cottages. We have five Bear Management Areas (BMAs) totaling 500 square kilometers (311 square miles). Our BMAs are stuffed with Black Bears and our guests enjoy a 90% harvest rate and a 100% sighting rate. Black Bears average between 200 and 250 pounds but guests have harvested many in the 300 to 450 pound range and we have even had a few Black Bears exceed 500 pounds. Guests have a choice of weapons when hunting Black Bear. Rifle, archery (bow), black powder and shotgun are all acceptable.

Moose Hunting: Moose are plentiful in the area due to the diverse landscape and remote location. We do not have tags here at the lodge, but if you enter the draw and receive a tag, in WMU 32, you can rent a cabin from us, for archery season or the first week of gun only. This may change every three years. Bull Moose in the area are common in the 900 to 1300 pound range with the occasional Bull that is much bigger. Cows are usually between 700 and 900 pounds. We can offer our Moose hunts to both archery (bow) and rifle hunters.

Accommodations & Activities: We offer five comfortable lakefront cabins that are different sizes and sleep four to eight adults comfortably. Each cabin has a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with sink, shower and flush toilets, comfortable beds, kitchen table with chairs and all but our smallest & largest cabins have a comfortable couch. Each cabin has a wood burning stove for heat. In front of the cabins is a beautiful beach that the kids will love. There are many other activities for the whole family other than fishing such as canoeing, kayaking, swimming, hiking, guided ATV rides, blueberry picking, bird watching or just exploring the area and its unique landscape. Our games room has a pool table and comfortable couches.
